Leo Romero, es uno de los skaters que mas pro models ha lanzado junto a Emerica, marca de la cual forma parte desde hace muchísimos años.
En esta entrevista Leo, nos cuenta un poco como fueron los procesos, sus modelos favoritos y cuales son las características principales que si o si tienen que tener sus pro models.

A través de todos estos años ha lanzado junto con Emerica muchos Pro Models. ¿Recuerdas cómo fue el momento en que te dijeron que tendrías tu propio Pro Model?
¡Estaba estático! No podía creer que realmente estuviera sucediendo. Todavía no puedo creerlo.
¿Qué estabas buscando ese zapato?
Estaba buscando algo simple. Ellos tenian practicamente terminado mi modelo cuando me contaron que me iban a dar mi primer pro model. Solo agregué algunos detalles, me gustaba lo que tenían. Empecé a obtener más en el aspecto de diseño de mis Pro Models después de los primeros 2.
¿Usualmente te involucras en el diseño de ellos?
Empecé a involucrarme en mi tercer Pro model.
¿Cómo es el proceso de diseño / desarrollo usualmente?
Bueno, se te ocurren algunas ideas y las pruebas hasta que obtienes algo que funciona o que se vea bien.
Claramente, los zapatos sin cordones son una de las características que más te gustan en una zapatilla. ¿Cuéntanos el porqué?
Los cordones son molestos, están sucios, siempre se rompen en los peores momentos. Ellos solo me molestan.

¿Otra característica que tiene que tener las zapatillas que usas?
No me gustan muchos adornos. La simplicidad es clave para mí.
De todos sus modelos profesionales, ¿puede decirnos cuáles son sus Top 3?
Los que tengo ahora, las Laced originales y los que parecen botas tipo Chelsea.
¿Alguna anécdota que recuerdes sobre alguno de los lanzamientos de tus zapatos?
No que me vengan a la cabeza. Hice mi primer stand de barril en la fiesta de lanzamiento de mi primer pro model.
Sabemos que pronto aparecerá una nueva versión de Laced, ¿qué nos puedes decir sobre esto?
Es el mismo que el original, pero Hi. Se ve muy bien. Los Laced son un calzado de buen aspecto; Creo que puede hacer que el Hi se vea increíble.
Emerica es una de las pocas marcas que el propietario es skaters que actualmente se encuentran en el mercado, ¿qué crees que este tipo de marcas contribuyen a la escena del skate?
No lo sé. El Skateboarding está un poco extraño para mí ahora. Pero espero que nos traiga una apariencia auténtica de lo que significa patinar para nosotros. Siento que Emerica siempre ha hecho un buen trabajo al ser una verdadera marca skater.

Through all these years you have launched together with emerica a lot of shoes with your name. Remember how was the moment they told you that you were going to have your own pro model?
I was ecstatic! I couldn’t believe it was actually happening . I still can’t believe it.
What were you looking for that shoe?
I was looking for something simple. They pretty much had my first shoe designed when they told me I was getting a pro shoe. I added a few details but I already like what they had. I started getting more into the design aspect of my pro shoes after the first 2.
Do you usually get involved in the design of them?
I started to after the first 2.
How is the design / development process usually?
Well, you come up with a few ideas & you just try them out until you get something that works or looks cool.
Clearly the shoes that do not need laces are one of the characteristics that you like most in a shoe. What is this about?
Laces are annoying, they’re dirty, you always rip them at the worst times. They just bug me.
Any other feature, what if or if it has to have your shoes?
I don’t like to many bells & whistles . Simplicity is key for me.
Of all your pro models you can tell us what are your Top 3?
The ones I have out now, my original laced pro-model & The ones that look like a Chelsea boot.
Any anecdote that you remember about any of the launches of your shoes?
Not off the top of my head. I did my first keg stand at my first shoe release party.
We know that soon a new version of Laced comes out, what can you tell us about these?
It’s a the same as the original but hi. It looks really cool those. The laced is a good looking shoe that I think can pull off the hi look easily.
Emerica is one of the few brands skater owner remained in the market, what do you think that these types of brands contribute to the skate scene?
I don’t know. Skateboarding is a bit strange to me now a days. But I hope it bring an authentic look & feel as to what skating means to us. I feel like Emerica has always done a good job of being true skateboarding.
